At the meeting, both sides concluded measures to keep the border peaceful and quiet, and intensify diplomatic and military talks, with a second meeting in India planned for the new year.
As the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement, "The 23rd meeting of the Special Representatives on the China-India Boundary Question took place in Beijing on December 18, 2024. This was the first time in five years that the two sides had met.
"According to the landmark agreement reached by the two sides in Kazan, Chinese Special Representative, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office Wang Yi and Indian Special Representative and National Security Advisor Doval held productive discussions on the China-India border matter in a positive and constructive spirit and came up with six agreements," said the release.
Both sides committed to maintain increased cross-border exchanges and collaboration, and encouraging Indian pilgrimage to Tibet and China, river cooperation across border, and Nathula border trade. The two sides also took the agreement between the two countries regarding the border issue in good light, said that implementation work should continue, and considered the border matter should be dealt with in a separate manner from the overall bilateral relations situation so that it would not hinder the evolution of bilateral relations.
They pledged to continue to take measures to preserve peace and security in the border regions and foster the stable and healthy growth of bilateral relations.
The two sides inspected the border and resolved to further strengthen the management and control rules in the border region, intensify the establishment of confidence-building efforts, and secure long-term peace and stability on the border, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
